Peer Review
Reviewing Procedure
All submissions to the Editorial Office of the Journal “Biochemistry (Moscow)” undergo a mandatory double-blind peer review (the reviewer does not know the author of the manuscript; and the author does not know the reviewer).
Reviewing of articles is conducted both by members of the editorial board and by invited reviewers – leading experts in the relevant fields. The decision on selection of a reviewer is made by the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor. In case of a conflict of interest, the reviewer has the right to decline to review the article.
The review period is 2 to 4 weeks, but it can be extended on the reviewer’s request. Upon completion of the review, the reviewer provides one of the following recommendations:
- the article is recommended for publication as is
- the article is recommended for publication after revision addressing the reviewer’s comments
- the article requires major revision and re-reviewing
- the article cannot be published in the journal
If the review contains recommendations for corrections and revisions, the Editorial Office sends the review text to the author, inviting them either to take the comments into account when preparing a revised version of the article or to provide reasoned arguments against them (partially or fully). The revised article must be resubmitted for review.
The revision process should not take more than 2 months from the date the author is notified of the required changes. After this period, the author is informed that the manuscript has been withdrawn from consideration. If the author declines to revise the article, they must notify the editorial board in writing.
Articles not recommended for publication are not accepted for reconsideration.
A positive review alone does not guarantee publication. The final decision on publication is made by the Editorial Board. In any conflicts, the Editor-in-Chief makes the ultimate decision.
Once the Editorial Board approves the article for publication, the Editorial Office informs the author and indicates the expected timeframe for publication. Publication of articles in “Biochemistry (Moscow)” is free of charge for authors.
